What to Expect Before Treatment

Your Restylane® experience begins with a detailed consultation where we’ll discuss what concerns you’d like to address and what results you hope to achieve. We’ll examine your facial structure and skin quality to determine which Restylane® product—or combination of products—will deliver your desired outcome. We’ll also review your medical history and any medications or supplements you’re taking. To minimize bruising, plan to avoid blood thinners, alcohol, and certain supplements for several days before your appointment.

What to Expect During Treatment

On treatment day, we’ll cleanse the area and may apply a topical numbing cream for comfort. Many Restylane® products also contain lidocaine for added comfort during injection. Using a fine needle or cannula, we’ll carefully inject the filler into precise locations based on your treatment plan. You may feel slight pressure or pinching during the injections. The procedure typically takes 15 to 45 minutes, depending on how many areas we’re treating. We’ll gently massage the treated areas to ensure smooth, even distribution.

Restylane® is suitable for adults seeking to address signs of aging, enhance facial features, or restore lost volume. You may be an ideal candidate if you want to smooth lines around your nose and mouth, add volume to your cheeks or lips, improve under-eye hollows, enhance your jawline or chin, or restore a more youthful facial contour.

However, Restylane® treatments aren’t recommended if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis, have bleeding disorders, or have an active skin infection in the treatment area. During your consultation, we’ll carefully evaluate whether Restylane® is appropriate for your specific needs and goals.

When Will I See Results?

One of the most exciting aspects of Restylane® is that results are visible immediately after treatment. You’ll notice enhanced volume and smoother contours right away. Some initial swelling is normal and typically subsides within a few days to two weeks, revealing your final, natural-looking results. Depending on which Restylane® product is used and the treatment area, your results can last anywhere from six months to 18 months or more. Regular maintenance treatments help you maintain your refreshed appearance.

Aftercare Tips

Following these aftercare guidelines helps ensure beautiful, lasting results:

  • Apply Ice - Use ice packs for the first 24 hours to minimize swelling
  • Avoid Pressure - Don't massage or apply pressure to treated areas unless instructed
  • Skip Strenuous Exercise - Wait 24 to 48 hours before resuming intense workouts
  • Protect Your Skin - Avoid excessive sun and heat exposure for several days
  • Sleep Elevated - Keep your head elevated for the first night to reduce swelling
  • Be Patient with Swelling - Some swelling and minor bruising is normal and will subside within a week or two
  • Avoid Certain Substances - Stay away from alcohol and blood-thinning medications for a few days after treatment
