What to Expect

Before Treatment

Before your SkinPen® treatment, we’ll conduct a thorough consultation to assess your skin concerns and determine if microneedling is right for you. We’ll review your medical history, current skincare routine, and aesthetic goals. To prepare for treatment, avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other active ingredients for 3-5 days beforehand. Stay well-hydrated, avoid excessive sun exposure, and arrive with clean skin free of makeup and lotions. If you have a history of cold sores, let us know as prophylactic medication may be recommended.

During Treatment

On treatment day, we’ll begin by thoroughly cleansing your skin to remove any oils or impurities. Next, we’ll apply a topical numbing cream and allow it to work for 20-30 minutes to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Once your skin is adequately numbed, we’ll use the SkinPen® device to create micro-channels across the treatment area in a systematic pattern. The device glides across your skin with a gentle stamping motion. Most patients describe the sensation as mild vibration with occasional light pressure or scratching. The actual microneedling process typically takes 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. After completing the microneedling, we may apply a soothing serum or mask to calm your skin and enhance results.

Is SkinPen® Right for You?
